The Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board have been successful in their bid
to host two tournaments later this year and in 2008.
The first tournament is the Pan American Hockey
Federation (PAHF) Caribbean Hockey Cup, to be staged between
November 7 and 11.
And the second is the Junior Pan American Championships
for men during the last quarter of next year.
In the first competition, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and
hosts Trinidad and Tobago's men's and women's national
senior teams will compete for Caribbean supremacy.
This tournament is being revived to encourage more
competition in the region and, according to organisers, it
is envisaged that more regional national teams will
participate in the future.
Trinidad and Tobago's men are presently the highest
world-ranked regional team, while the Barbados women are the
top Caribbean team.
The 2008 Junior Pan American Championships for men will
serve as a qualifier for the Junior Men's World Cup, to be
held in 2009 in Malaysia.
Argentina, Barbados, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Chile,
Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico,
Netherlands Antilles, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago,
Uruguay, USA and Venezuela are the countries eligible to
participate at the Junior Pan American Championships.
