The Trinidad and Tobago national under-21 team ended their 2008 Junior Pan American Hockey Tournament campaign with a 6-1 win over Puerto Rico at the National Hockey Centre, Tacarigua yesterday morning, although it was only good enough to give them seventh place.

The Trinidad and Tobago national under-21 hockey team will contest seventh place tomorrow from 10.30 a.m. at the National Hockey Centre, Tacarigua after their Junior Pan American title hopes evaporated with successive defeats to the United States and Barbados on Thursday night and yesterday afternoon, respectively.

Trouble in Tacarigua

There was only pride at stake when Trinidad and Tobago met the United States of America in February 2008 for their final Olympic qualifying fixture in New Zealand but it turned up to be a cracking, ill-tempered affair in which the lead changed hands on three occasions and three yellow and three green cards were shown.

LED by national senior team player, the pint-size Akim Toussaint of Paragon, the T&T Under-21 men’s hockey team will be seeking to create history on home soil when they compete in the Pan American Hockey Federations Junior Men’s Championships.

The 11-team tournament featuring the top teams in the Pan American region is being hosted by the T&T Hockey Board and flicks off at the National Hockey Centre, Tacarigua, on Friday until October 26.

Stacy Siu Butt Earns Legendary American Status
Trinidad and Tobago and Carib Magnolias hockey star Stacey Siu Butt will be inducted into the American University (AU) Hall of Fame next January in recognition of her deft skills and winning mentality, which helped the United States university earn nationwide recognition in the mid-1990s.


The 34-year-old hockey queen, who was recognised by the Trinidad and Tobago government as one of the country's most gifted athletes of the last millennium, follows former national football captain and Caribbean Player of the Year, David Nakhid, into the AU Hall of Fame.

  T&T to Host International Hockey Tournaments!
The Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board have been successful in their bid to host two tournaments later this year and in 2008.

The first tournament is the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) Caribbean Hockey Cup, to be staged between November 7 and 11.

Malvern Mixed Hockey Tournament 2007
The Carib Brewery sponsored 2007 Malvern Mixed Hockey Tournament was held on August 1st at the National Hockey Centre. The combination of Queen’s Park Cricket Club and Ventures Hockey (QPV) club won the tournament followed by the combination of Petrotrin, Paragon and Raiders in second (Two Dogs), the combination of Fatima and Magnolia Hockey Clubs (Phat Mags) came third, Malvern Sports Club (MSC) was forth and Ministry of Sport (MoS) – a group of under 19s who have been coached in the Ministry’s hockey programme – came fifth. First place won $3,000.00, second place $1,000.00 and third place $500.00. Goal keeper and fastest goal of the tournament both won $250.00 each.

Umpiring in the Caribbean

An Umpires Workshop was held at the recent Banks Hockey Festival in Bridgetown, Barbados which took place over the period 19-26 August 2007.

The Workshop, hosted by the Barbados Hockey Federation and assisted by the Pan American Hockey Federation Umpiring Committee, was geared towards Umpires approaching International standard, with all of the participants coming from the Caribbean area
